PHOTO: Penguins Honor Mario Lemieux With Statue

Mario Lemieux's greatness as a Pittsburgh Penguin finally has a physical monument. A statue honoring the Penguins legend was unveiled outside Mellon Arena on Wednesday.

Charlie Wilmoth has the overview of the statue, which depicts Lemieux scoring against the New York Islanders in 1988, and a picture via @Emptynetters:

Lemieux posted many impressive numbers over the course of his decorated NHL career, and it's fitting that his statue has some truly impressive numbers as well. It's about a massive 10 feet by 13 feet, according to the Penguins, and weighs a staggering 4,700 pounds, or 4,470 pounds more than the 230 pounds Lemieux often played at. According to the NHL, it's made of bronze, which your eyes could probably have told you.

The statue is named "Le Magnifique," a fitting title for a player whose magnificence delighted a generation of Penguins fans. And the Penguins are using the #LeMagnifique hashtag on Twitter to give out more details and share memories.
