Flyers Vs. Penguins Reaction: Penguins Unable To Hold On To Early Lead

The Pittsburgh Penguins lost their playoff opener to the rival Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night, and while the loss certainly stings, it wasn't a completely lost performance. The Penguins started off very hot in this game, but the Flyers gradually wore down the Penguins defense and completed their comeback with a game-winning goal in overtime. Our Penguins blog PensBurgh breaks it down.

The Penguins came out on fire Wednesday night in the first game of their opening round playoff match-up against the Philadelphia Flyers. Sidney Crosby, Tyler Kennedy scored goals in rapid fire succession and Pascal Dupuis added a cherry on top near the end of the opening frame, lending the hosts a dominant 3-0 lead by the end of the first period. Alas, it was only a loan. Things slowly, gradually fell apart. A sneaky Danny Briere goal here, another there, a gradually eroding defense all over the place.

That was not a very good start to the series for the Penguins, but there is still a lot of hockey to be played, and if they can just capture the way they played to start this game and come out swinging in the next game, they'll have a good chance to split their home games and head out to Philadelphia with a little bit of momentum.
