2012 NHL Playoffs, Penguins Vs. Flyers: Reaction To Penguins' First Round Exit

The Pittsburgh Penguins showed some resolve in their first round Playoff series against the Flyers, forcing it to a Game 6 after falling behind 3-0. But the deficit was simply too much to overcome and the Pens were bounced from the Playoffs on Sunday after losing to the Flyers in Game 6. Our Penguins blog PensBurgh isn't ready to accurately judge the season quite yet.

In the end, the Pittsburgh Penguins couldn't fight out of a series hole and dropped Game 6 today in Philadelphia 5-1. The Flyers proved to be the better team over the course of the series and finished off the Pens rather easily today. As far as further commentary, we'll let the smoke from this fire clear before determining what comes next.

More: Why It's Not Wrong To Criticize Marc-Andre Fleury For The Penguins' Elimination

It's unfair for any team to have "Stanley Cup or bust" be their only goal, but I don't think it's unfair to have expected the Penguins to get out of the first round of the Playoffs. They simply ran into a buzz saw in the Philadelphia Flyers and they got outplayed throughout most of the series. So the Penguins' season now ends in extremely frustrating fashion to the team that they arguably wanted to lose to the least; and that's an awfully tough pill to swallow.
