Red Sox Vs. Pirates: Boston Avoids Sweep With 4-2 Victory Over Pittsburgh

Boston rallied after getting behind for the third straight day for a 4-2 win, propelled by three runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Pittsburgh played a sloppy game, committing four errors in front of a second consecutive record crowd at PNC Park. Those miscues led to only one of Boston's four runs on the day being earned. Ironically, though, two of those errors were committed by pitchers James McDonald and Daniel Moskos.

The Pirates started the day with a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly by Ronny Cedeno in the fourth and an RBI single by Andrew McCutchen in the fifth, but couldn't hold on. McDonald, starting for Charlie Morton, who was skipped in the rotation, was solid, allowing two unearned runs over six innings. The normally stable bullpen allowed two runs after McDonald exited - one earned by Tim Wood and one unearned by Moskos..

Worse than the loss, however, was the fact that starting outfielder Jose Tabata was taken off the field on a stretcher with a quadriceps injury in the first inning. He did not return and his status is unknown. On the bright side, Pedro Alvarez is scheduled to begin on-field workouts this week.
