MLB All-Star Game 2011: Futures Game Results

The U.S. beat the World 6-4 in the 2011 Futures Game on Sunday. You can find the box score here. Notably, Starling Marte of the Pirates went 1-for-3 for the World team. (Marte was the only Pirate prospect to play; Chase D'Arnaud was also selected, but was then promoted, so he started at shortstop for the big-league Pirates on Sunday instead.)

Top Nationals prospect Bryce Harper went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. The Athletics' Grant Green went 2-for-2 with two doubles and was named the game's MVP.

Marte is one of the Pirates' top prospects, but his name has come up as a player the Bucs might ship out at the trading deadline in order to get help for the big-league team. That strikes me as unlikely - it's rare that prospects as good as Marte are traded at the deadline, and rarer still that teams like the Pirates do it. The Bucs have been surprisingly good this year, but they're playing for 2012, 2013 and beyond as well.

Too much of Marte's success in the minors so far has come from beating out infield singles, but he does have 32 extra-base hits so far this year. He'll be interesting to watch in the next year or too.
