Cubs Vs. Pirates: Derrek Lee's Two Homers In Pirates Debut Aren't Enough As Bucs Lose, 5-3

New Pirates first baseman Derrek Lee made his presence felt immediately by hitting two home runs and accounting for all three of the Bucs' RBIs against the Chicago Cubs Monday night, but the Cubs won anyway, 5-3.

Lee hit a solo home run in the fourth and a two-run jack to right-center in the eighth, much to the delight of fans at PNC Park, who wanted him to come out for a curtain call. He also made a very good play at first base by gunning down the lead runner on Darwin Barney's sacrifice attempt.

The rest of the Pirates' offense couldn't do much against Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs, with Neil Walker the only other Pirate to have an extra-base hit (a double in the eighth). Paul Maholm, meanwhile, allowed the first three batters to reach base in the sixth inning, leading to three of the four runs he allowed in the loss.

Ryan Ludwick, who was acquired from the San Diego Padres at the deadline on Sunday, also made his Pirates debut. He went 0-for-3 but made two good throws from left field.
