Pirates vs. Braves final score: Pittsburgh loses season finale, 4-0

Seven Atlanta Braves pitchers combined for a four-hitter Wednesday to help down the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-0, in the regular-season finale at PNC Park. The Pirates finished the season with a disappointing 79-83 overall record, after being 63-47 on Aug. 9. The Braves, National League Wild Card winners, were able to give soon-to-be-retired Chipper Jones a fond farewell in his final regular-season game.

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen went 1-for-3 before being taken off the field in the top of the eighth inning. McCutchen left to an ovation from the announced 20,615 fans in attendance. McCutchen finished the season with an NL-high 194 hits with a batting average of .327 with 31 home runs, 96 RBI and 107 runs scored.

Pittsburgh's A.J. Burnett (16-10) took the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. Braves' reliever Luis Avilan (1-0) was the winning pitcher, as the Braves scored a run in the top of the first, fourth and two in the sixth.

In his final at-bat in regular-season play, Chipper Jones collected a hit in a pitch-hitting situation and finished 1-for-1.
