2012 PirateFest schedule: Pirates winter carnival at convention center this weekend

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

There will be plenty to do this weekend as the Pittsburgh Pirates host the family-friendly 2012 PirateFest over the weekend.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are set to get to know their fans a little bit better over the weekend, as this year's PirateFest is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Activities include a toy drive, player autograph sessions, Family Feud and "Deal or No Deal" and "Card Sharks"-style game shows involving Pirates players and announcers, question-and-answer sessions and more. Season ticket packages for the upcoming 2013 Pirates' season will also be available.

Other charitable events include a blood drive and a raffle that includes prizes such as player memorabilia as well as autographed items like bats and jerseys.

Both days include times for children to snap photos with Santa, and one of Sunday's concluding events features a Pierogi-eating contest, which will include Pittsburgh infielder Pedro Alvarez on the eating panel.
