Pirates Vs. Mets: Erik Bedard Could Use A Little Help

The Pittsburgh Pirates kick off a three-game set at home against the New York Mets on Monday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are back in action on Monday, National League action, after losing two of three to the Detroit Tigers over the weekend. They host the New York Mets for three-game set. Both teams have lost three of their last five games.

Erik Bedard gets the call for the Pirates. Pittsburgh is counting on the left-hander to continue a career rebound that started last season, but was interrupted by injuries. Bedard has not pitched more than 180 innings since 2007. This year, he is off to a very good start, owning a 3.07 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. It might be even better if his team were providing more than an average of 2.6 runs per start for him.

Mets starter Johan Santana can relate. His team is giving him 2.7 runs of support in each game, and his bullpen keep blowing chances to close out opponents.

The game starts at 7:05 p.m. Eastern, and can be seen on Root Sports.
