The Pirates right-hander could be shut down for the year, according to a report.

Charlie Morton has not pitched since May 29, and he's had his rehabilitation shut down amidst concerns of a more serious injury, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Morton, 28, was originally shut down after complaining of elbow pain, which was dismissed as "minor" at the time.

Morton could be facing Tommy John surgery, the Tribune-Review reports. That would shut him down for the season, while the recovery would be expected to take a full year, with full expectations for a complete recovery.

Morton has started nine games so far this year. He's 2-8 in those games with a 4.65 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. In his last start, he went four innings and gave up four runs on six hits and one walk without any strikeouts.
