Pirates Vs. Rockies Preview: Pittsburgh Falling Behind In NL Central Standings

Stay connected for news and updates

After entering the All-Star Break as the leader in the NL Central, the Pirates are now a game out of first place after struggles out of the gate of the second half of the season. Pittsburgh has lost back-to-back games including a loss against the Rockies in game one of a three-game series on Monday night.

On Tuesday, the Pirates will look to bounce back, as will starting pitcher Erik Bedard. With losses in four consecutive starts, Bedard hasn't earned a win since he beat the Royals on June 8. In his last start Bedard allowed four earned runs in less than four innings before getting pulled.

To get back on track, Bedard and the Pirates will have to beat Christian Friedrich. After a four game losing streak of his own in June, Friedrich bounced back with his first win in over a month on Friday in a six-inning outing in which he allowed just one run.

The first pitch at Coors Field is scheduled to be thrown at 8:40 p.m. and will be televised on Root Sports-Pittsburgh and Root Sports-Rocky Mountain.
