The Pittsburgh Pirates, though interested in Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino, appear unwilling to part with the players needed to swing the trade, according to a report by Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Pirates beat reporter Rob Biertempfel. The Phillies are apparently asking for quite a bit in this deal. This could also be why they have not traded for Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo.
One #Pirates source just laughed when I asked how high is #Phillies asking price for Victorino. "I'll tell you later," he said, an indication team had cooled on acquiring the soon-to-be-FA. Shin-Soo Choo remains possibility, but Pirates understandably are very reluctant to include Starling Marte in deal.
The Pirates are trying to look for any player that can shore up their roster for the final run during the regular season. Hunter Pence might be another possibility, but the price might be too high.
Same goes for [Hunter] Pence. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pirates pick up bench guy and reliever -- magic dust is wearing off for [Juan] Cruz and another lefty in pen would be nice.
The Pirates are currently three games back of the division lead, but are in position for one of the two National League wild card spots.
