2011 NFL Draft: Is Stefen Wisniewski Physical Enough?

SB Nation’s New England Patriots blog, Pats Pulpit, has a new NFL Draft profile of Penn State offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski that suggests that Wisniewski, who for the past several months has mostly been regarded as a second-round or perhaps a late first-round pick, is slipping in the draft and could go in the middle rounds.

Wisniewski seems to be dropping down a lot of draft boards and, after watching his tape, I can see why. He doesn’t play like a first- or second-rounder with a lot of upside. He plays like a mid-rounder who is what you get from Week 1. I don’t see him drastically improving because his technique is solid- it’s his overall body and that won’t change too much.

Pats Pulpit isn’t the first to opine that Wisniewski lacks upside. That’s in Walter Football’s evaluation of him, too. Both point out his relative lack of strength, which will hurt him, particularly against nose tackles.
