2011 NFL Draft: Could Steelers Take Mark Ingram?

Steelers Depot has an interesting post about whether the Steelers could draft Alabama running back Mark Ingram, if Ingram is still on the board when the Steelers pick No. 31 overall. The idea is that he could potentially fall that far due to concerns about his knee and the fact that he recently changed agents. Even though they have a good starting running back in Rashard Mendenhall (and some depth in Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer), the Steelers have recently shown interest in drafting running backs like Da'Rel Scott.

The issue, though, is that all the talk about the Steelers drafting a running back that I've heard assumes they will wait to pick a running back until the later rounds - even though the Steelers went to the Super Bowl this year, their needs at cornerback and other positions are great enough that taking a running back in the first round could be an opportunity they might later regret. The question, when it comes to Ingram, is how the Steelers feel about his knee and whether he would be too good a value to pass up at the end of the first round. It's a longshot for lots of reasons, but it's worth thinking about.
