NFL Mock Draft 2012: Steelers Unlikely To Choose Janoris Jenkins

Many of the 2012 NFL Mock Drafts have the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting an offensive lineman with the No. 24 pick in the draft, specifically Cordy Glenn from Georgia. The folks at NFLSoup.com are breaking down the best options by team in the 2012 Draft, and list five options for Pittsburgh. Glenn is listed, of course, as are defensive linemen Dontari Poe of Memphis and Alameda Ta'amu of Washington. The one option that jumps out is probably a pipe dream, but intriguing nonetheless:

Option #3: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
Tim Tebow helped prove just why Pittsburgh needs a bit of help in the secondary in that Wild Card Playoff match-up. While Ike Taylor has played well, he cannot continue to be the only viable option at cornerback for Pittsburgh. Janoris Jenkins doesn't have a ton of size, but he's still thick and an aggressive tackler that could find a home in the AFC North. His speed would have helped against DeMaryius Thomas, that's for sure.

The Steelers most likely draft too late to be able to choose Jenkins, but if he were available, would Pittsburgh ponder taking the third-ranked cornerback available in the 2012 Draft? Who knows, but probably not. Playoff loss aside, the cornerback position wasn't in the top five of the Steelers' list of problems last year, and they picked two cornerbacks in the 2011 draft. The Steelers don't draft purely for need in the first round, but citing the Steelers' struggles against the Broncos as the reason the Steelers might pick a cornerback misses the point.
