2012 NFL Combine Results: Dontari Poe, Dont'a Hightower Pass Combine Test

The Pittsburgh Steelers are picking toward the end of the first round, but they should still be able to acquire some talent to fill their needs. There are two prospects that have been named frequently for them, and both were in action at the NFL Combine Monday. Dontari Poe and Dont'a Hightower each bring something unique to the table, and our Steelers blog Behind The Steel Curtain tried to separate them as prospects. Here is their conclusion.

To boil it down between these two, Hightower showed it on the field, leading the nation's best defense to a national championship, but won't be the best athlete available, should he be on the board when the Steelers pick at 24. Poe's production on the field doesn't match his freakish workout skills, and there are defensive tackles in this draft who played at a higher level and produced more.

Both players would fill need spots for the Steelers, and they both seem to be prospects who should pan out at the next level. It might come down to which position the Steelers value more, or if they are more comfortable taking someone based on production or someone based on athleticism. Of course, that assumes that Poe will be available at No. 24, and after his amazing combine performance, that might be a stretch.
