2012 NFL Draft: Rams Could Trade No. 2 Pick, Jeff Fisher Says

Mocking The Draft notes that Jeff Fisher of the St. Louis Rams has said the team might be willing to trade the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. That makes sense in a way, in that there are teams who would love to trade up and grab Robert Griffin III with that pick, but the Rams aren't interested, since they're committed to Sam Bradford at quarterback. But Mocking The Draft says then the problem becomes whether they ought to keep the pick anyway and draft offensive lineman Matt Kalil.

While adding picks would be nice for the Rams, having a franchise left tackle is the most important piece this team can add. If the Rams trade down to a team wanting Robert Griffin III, they won't be able to get a player as good as (offensive tackle Matt) Kalil. That's what the Rams will be choosing between. If they want Sam Bradford to develop, they need Kalil more than anything else.

Whatever ends up happening will have a huge impact on the first round. Even the Steelers, picking for the first time at No. 24, will likely be affected, in that where Kalil is picked could have an impact on where exactly other offensive linemen are taken, and the Steelers will surely at least consider taking an offensive lineman. It's all obviously way too early to predict, but it's worth keeping an eye on.
