Steelers president Art Rooney II reiterated his desire to sign wide receiver Mike Wallace to a long term contract in a recent interview with Scott Brown of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The sooner the better as far as we're concerned but there's two parties to it. We'll have to see what we agree on so I don't want to put any particular time frame on it or restrictions on it because these things take time and I wouldn't want to box myself in on it.

Wallace, who is currently a restricted free agent, has been offered a one-year $2.74 million deal from the Steelers. Wallace has also expressed interest in becoming the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL. The Steelers are currently $6-$8 million under the 2012 salary cap, which is the primary roadblock to signing Wallace to a long term deal.
