Steelers Release Chad Spann, Antonio Smith

Stay connected for news and updates

The Pittsburgh Steelers roster was over the 90-player limit with the signing of all of their undrafted free agents, so to clear room the team has released running back Chad Spann and cornerback Antonio Smith.

Spann was signed to the Steelers practice squad late last season and promoted to the active roster for the NFL Playoffs after Rashard Mendenhall was injured and out for the year.

Smith was signed by the Steelers at the end of the season to a futures contract. Smith originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2007 signing with the Indianapolis Colts and has stints with the Detroit Lions, San Diego Chargers, and Cincinnati Bengals.
