2012 NFL Draft Results: Mike Adams Probably Won't Start From The Beginning

The Pittsburgh Steelers took offensive lineman in each of the first two rounds of varying degree of NFL readiness. Their first round pick David DeCastro is considered to be a plug and play elite level guard from Day 1, while their second round pick Mike Adams is a little bit more of a gamble. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette doesn't think that Adams will be ready to start for the Steelers right out of the gate.

Adams is not ready to be a starter in the NFL because he needs to get stronger. He did only 19 reps in the 225-pound bench press at the combine, a low and disappointing number for an offensive lineman. Adams should be a starting tackle for a long time and, with DeCastro, automatically elevates the talent on the line. But not right now.

And that totally makes sense. If Adams was ready to start from Day 1, he probably wouldn't have made it out of the first round. The Steelers took Adams with the hope that he could develop into a starter at some point as Dulac points out, he just isn't ready for that role just yet.
