Steelers Training Camp News: Casey Hampton Hopes To Be Ready For The Regular Season

Stay connected for news and updates

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting on nose tackle Casey Hampton to get healthy. The 34-year-old is recovering from surgery to repair his torn ACL, an injury he suffered in the team's playoff loss to the Denver Bronocs six months ago. No return date has been set for Hampton, though the team is hopeful to have him for the start of the regular season, said the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Monday.

Hampton is on the PUP list to start training camp. The team can activate him as soon as he passes muster with the medical staff. His January ACL tear was the third of his 11-year career.

Pittsburgh spent a fourth-round pick on Washington defensive tackle Alameda Ta'amu in the 2012 draft. Widely considered an eventual replacement for Hampton, he is behind Steve McLendon on the depth chart at nose tackle.
