The Pittsburgh Steelers begin their 2012-13 season Sunday at the Denver Broncos, and No. 1 wide receiver Mike Wallace is expected to start despite missing almost all of training camp because of a contract holdout.
When the Pittsburgh Steelers open their 2012-13 season against the Denver Broncos Sunday, No. 1 wide receiver Mike Wallace will start, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The news was passed on by wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who said Wallace is "definitely going to start" after Monday's practice.
The news isn't too shocking, but some might have thought Wallace may not be in game-shape after missing Steelers' training camp because of a contract holdout. The Pro Bowl wide out reported to training camp a week before Pittsburgh's final preseason game, which he did not play in.
Wallace's first field action will come Sunday at the Broncos (8:20 p.m. ET on NBC), but there's no concern about him being ready.
Wallace said he handled his duties in the new offense well and that not everything was a fly pattern. He said he did not have to ask anyone a question about a play that was called.
"I'm not going to say it's going to be like that every day, but not today. I had a pretty good grasp of what we were doing. That was one day. I don't know how it's going to be like Wednesday but today I was pretty good."
