Pittsburgh needs to replace Mike Wallace and could try to with the pick of Patterson in the first round.

In SB Nation's latest NFL mock draft, Dan Kadar has the Pittsburgh Steelers drafting Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson with the No. 17 overall pick.

Patterson is perhaps the best receiving prospect in the draft along with West Virginia Mountaineers speedster Tavon Austin. At 6'3 and 216 pounds, Patterson is a big-bodied receiver who can get separation and play outside the numbers with great effectiveness.

Last season, Patterson racked up 46 catches, 778 yards and five touchdowns with NFL prospect Tyler Bray throwing him the ball. Patterson also showed off his speed when he was given the ball as a runner, getting 25 carries and getting 308 yards with three scores.

Patterson would be expected to start on the outside opposite of Antonio Brown after Pittsburgh let Mike Wallace walk to the warm beaches of South Beach and the Miami Dolphins.

Other options could be outside linebacker and cornerback for the Steelers, who desperately need to get younger on that side of the ball.

Will the Steelers still be targeting a wide receiver?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have become more and more pass-oriented in recent years with Ben Rothliesberger at the helm, and they may be looking to give the quarterback another weapon in this year's draft. Many pundits have the Steelers picking a wide receiver with the No. 17 selection.

Fairburn also believed the Steelers could draft Patterson if they were to lose another starting receiver:

With the departure of Mike Wallace, and the possible departure of Emmanuel Sanders, the Steelers need to find a receiver to play opposite Antonio Brown. Cordarrelle Patterson's ability to make plays in the vertical passing game would be a huge asset for Pittsburgh's offense.

Sanders will be staying in Pittsburgh. Will that mean a change in priorities for the Steelers? Fairburn wasn't the only mock drafter sending Patterson to the Steel City. NFL.com's Bucky Brooks seconded that notion. His colleague Matt Smith also went the wide receiver route with Cal's Keenan Allen.

Charles Davis and Daniel Jeremiah believe Pittsburgh will draft their next potential dominant linebacker by grabbing Georgia's Jarvis Jones. That line of thinking may be more accurate with Sanders hanging around Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers probably need to get a young, defensive playmaker in the first round to bolster an aging defense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell flat for the first time in years in 2012. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was unremarkable, and everything felt a little stale. As such, they're picking right about middle of the pack in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Steelers also lost top target Mike Wallace to the Miami Dolphins in free agency, creating a huge need at the wide receiver position. Fortunately, one of the top targets should still be available when the Steelers pick at No. 17, and they could definitely elect to go in that direction with the pick.

That's what Matthew Fairburn of SB Nation had them doing, taking Clemson wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Don Banks of SI.com released his mock draft on Wednesday and he has them going a different direction, however, with the selection of Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro:

With no Barkevious Mingo or Jarvis Jones to target at No. 17 in this scenario, the Steelers will grapple with a decision between Vacarro and Tennessee receiver Cordarelle Patterson, as the deep-threat replacement for Mike Wallace. But this is Pittsburgh we're talking about, and defense still rules. Vacarro is the draft's top safety, and he can both hit and cover. There's no way he's getting out of the teens.

Vacarro would definitely be a strong pick for the Steelers. They're trying to force a youth movement on defense, given that their unit has been regarded as "aging" for several seasons now. Vacarro would come in and be an instant starter for years to come, if all goes as planned.

The Steelers have some holes in the defensive front seven, but are projected to take a safety in one of the latest mock drafts.

Kenny Vaccaro is the top safety in the 2013 NFL Draft and could soon be a Pittsburgh Steeler, according to one of the latest mock drafts.

The Steelers are projected to take the senior safety from Texas with the 17th pick in the latest mock draft from Don Banks of Sports Illustrated. Adding a player along the defensive line or at linebacker may be a bigger priority for Pittsburgh, but in Banks' mock draft the top 3-4 defensive targets are off the board. That leaves Vaccaro as the best player available.

With Ryan Clark and Troy Polamalu already in the fold, Vaccaro likely wouldn't start as a rookie in Pittsburgh. He would, however, contribute and provide a much needed successor at safety as Clark and Polamalu enter the latter stages of their careers.

Vaccaro isn't the only option, however, as SB Nation's Dan Kadar projected Pittsburgh to select wide receiver Tavon Austin in his latest mock draft. The 5'9 wide receiver from West Virginia is one of the most explosive athletes in the draft. He could slide into the role Mike Wallace vacated when he signed with Miami, and would give Ben Roethlisberger another dangerous target.

If Austin is on the board when Pittsburgh goes on the clock, the Steelers may get the steal of the draft.

In the latest edition of SB Nation's NFL mock draft by Dan Kadar, the Pittsburgh Steelers address their wide receiver situation by drafting Tavon Austin, the speedy playmaker out of West Virginia.

Austin has been mocked recently in the middle of the first round, with many believing the St. Louis Rams will snatch him up considering their lack of talent at the position. However, in this draft, St. Louis takes safety Kenny Vaccaro, opening the door for Austin to slide.

Austin was a stud last season, racking up 114 catches for 1,289 yards and 12 touchdowns as Geno Smith's right-hand man. It's hard to see how Austin's game won't translate to the NFL with his excellent hands and blinding speed.

Some players simply know how to make plays. Austin is one of them.

After losing Mike Wallace to the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh has a need on the outside. The Steelers arguably have bigger holes on the defensive side of the ball at nose tackle and outside linebacker, but here Pittsburgh is content to give Ben Roethlisberger some more help.

La Salle hopes to become the first No. 13 seed ever to make the Elite Eight, and they have a favorable matchup to do so.

The NCAA Tournament continues on Thursday with the Sweet 16 round. While most of the experts predict this round to play out favorably for the higher seeds, there are still a few games with upset potential. One of those upsets could end up being historical.

The No. 13 La Salle Explorers have played more games than any other tourney team thanks to starting in the First Four. On Thursday night, they hope to defeat Wichita St. and become the lowest seed ever to make the Elite Eight. CBS Sports' panel of experts is split in their predictions -- Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello both believe they can pull it off, while Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander have the Shockers continuing their run.

There is less dissent in their other predictions. All four experts have Miami, Louisville, Michigan, Duke and Florida winning their respective matchups to move on to the regional finals. Norlander is the only person who believes that Syracuse can upset Indiana. They're also split on Ohio St. vs. Arizona -- Goodman and Norlander pick the Wildcats, while Parrish and Borzello have the Buckeyes winning.

Pittsburgh is aging on defense badly, making Jones the perfect fit.

In SB Nation's last mock draft by Dan Kadar, the Pittsburgh Steelers are bolstering their defense with the No. 17 overall pick, selecting outside linebacker Jarvis Jones from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Jones was considered to a consensus top five pick earlier in the offseason, but his stock has taken some hits. First it was discovered that Jones has spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal column. However, he has been medically cleared.

In 2012, Jones was an animal on the field, amassing a career-high 14.5 sacks including a three-sack performance against the Florida Gators.

He also had a bad pro day, pulling up with tightness in his hamstring while running his 40-yard dash, although he did finish the drills.

All that said, Jones is a fantastic athlete that can rush the quarterback with relentlessness and wall off a running play to his side of the field. With James Harrison gone, Pittsburgh needs a bookend to LaMarr Woodley, and Jones would certainly provide that.

Jones can play in either a 4-3 or 3-4, but is better suited for the latter. Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau could move him around in formations, exercising all of Jones' abilities.
