Rob Christy-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The West Virginia Mountaineers are one of five teams that won their first conference game in the Big 12 and remain undefeated on the season after beating Baylor on Saturday.

West Virginia began its Big 12 Conference history with a win to move its record to 4-0, but four other teams have identical records as the conference quickly became split between the undefeated teams and those who have lost games.

The dichotomy was somewhat to be expected, as two of Saturday's three conference matchups pitted undefeated teams against each other, as West Virginia hung 10 touchdowns on Baylor in a 70-63 shootout for the ages, while Texas Tech beat Iowa State for its fourth win of the year. But the conference's other matchup saw an undefeated prevail as well, as Texas left Oklahoma State with a 41-36 win.

TCU beat SMU to remain unbeaten, leaving the conference with five 4-0 teams with a conference win under their belt and five teams with blemished records:

At least one team will lose its unbeaten distinction next week, as the Mountaineers are again tasked with tackling a ranked opponent, heading to Texas in a clash that should set the early favorite for the Big 12 Championship.
