2012 BCS Standings, Week 11: West Virginia unranked after TCU loss

Justin K. Aller

West Virginia's third straight loss dropped them out of the BCS rankings, where they had been No. 21 before falling in double overtime to TCU.

The West Virginia Mountaineers understandably fell out of the BCS standings after falling in double overtime to a three-loss TCU team.

The Mountaineers were ranked as high as No. 5 after starting out 5-0, but their three-game losing streak has ended hopes for a team that had an outside shot at contending for a national championship. West Virginia had held on in the rankings at No. 21 after their first two losses on account of their strong performance in their first five games and their secon dloss coming to Kansas State, still undefeated and ranked No. 2. After falling to the Horned Frogs on a two-point conversion in a second overtime, however, there was no hope at remaining ranked for the skidding Mountaineers. There's only two ranked teams with three losses: USC, who lost this week to now-No. 3 Oregon, and Texas Tech, who handed West Virginia their first loss.

As for the top of the standings, there was some swapping as Oregon rose a spot due to the USC win and Notre Dame fell on account of their triple-overtime win over lowly Pitt. Alabama and Kansas State stayed steady in the top two spots.

Here's a look at the full standings:
