Big East Basketball Standings 2012: Pitt Floundering, West Virginia On NCAA Tournament Bubble

Pitt will need a miracle to make the NCAA Tournament, while WVU is currently on the bubble.

Heading into Pitt's matchup against South Florida Sunday night, here's a look at the Big East standings so far. This probably isn't how Pitt fans want to look at their team right now, but here we go.

School / conference record / overall

No. 2 Syracuse 13-1 26-1
No. 13 Marquette 11-3 22-5
No. 25 Notre Dame 11-3 19-8
No. 9 Georgetown 10-4 20-5
South Florida 9-4 16-10
No. 18 Louisville 9-5 21-6
Cincinnati 9-5 19-8
West Virginia 7-7 17-10
Seton Hall 7-8 18-9
Connecticut 6-8 16-10
Rutgers 4-9 12-14
Pitt 4-10 15-12
Villanova 4-10 11-15
St. John's 4-10 11-16
DePaul 2-12 11-15
Providence 2-13 13-15

Obviously, with a conference record like 4-10, Pitt will need a miracle to make it to the NCAA Tournament at this point. A win over South Florida on Sunday would certainly help, but only in a drop-in-the-bucket sort of way. (It's pretty surprising that USF is 9-4 in the Big East, by the way -- although the Bulls haven't yet beaten a team that's currently ranked.)

West Virginia currently looks like a March Madness bubble team. The Mountaineers can advance their cause with strong upcoming performances against ranked teams Notre Dame (on the road on Wednesday) and Marquette (at home on Friday).
