Pittsburgh Steelers Release Statement On Bill Stewart's Passing

The football world is grieving on Monday following the news of former West Virginia Mountaineers football coach Bill Stewart's passing due to an apparent heart attack. The Pittsburgh Steelers released a statement following the news of Stewart's death.

The statement from the Steelers reads:

"He was a great coach and a tremendous person. We not only lost a good football person, we lost an even better family man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Karen and his son Blaine."

Ties between the Steelers and the former WVU coach ran much deeper than regional bonds linking to the two institutions. Stewart hired current Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin as an assistant coach at the Virginia Military Institute in 1995.

Among the current Steelers' roster, players who played for Stewart at WVU include defensive back Ryan Mundy and linebacker Morrty Ivy.
