499 crews will race in the Head Of The Ohio regatta on the Allegheny this Saturday.
↵↵↵In a head race, rather than all boats starting at the same time and racing against one another, boats launch at intervals in a race against the clock. The Head of the Ohio is one of the country's biggest one-day regattas.
↵For many crews, this will be the first race of the season.
↵"We've only been training since the last week in August," Duquesne coach Joe Setting said. "In rowing terms, fall is — at least for college and high school — considered the preseason. You're really looking to fine-tune your technique and use fall as a stepping stone to winter training and then, ultimately, the spring season when all the championships take place."

In addition to Duquesne, several other area colleges will participate, including Pitt, Robert Morris and CMU. Youth and high school crews will race as well.
