NHL Power Rankings: Penguins Move Up After 2-0-1 Week

The Pens move up a bit this week in the national outlets' NHL Power Rankings, after wins over the Lightning and Thrashers and an overtime loss to the Rangers. After a tough matchup tonight against the Canucks, the Pens take on the Hurricanes and Panthers. The Blues take a big dive in the power rankings this week after losing T.J. Oshie, with the Red Wings moving up several spots and the Kings staying near the top. The Pens, at 9-8-2, rank near the middle, but will start to move up quickly if Marc-Andre Fleury's recovery sticks and they have a few more weeks like this last one.

ESPN: 12 (last week: 11).

Nice response to last week's collapse versus the Bruins. Geno has come alive, Sid continues his MVP-caliber season, and Marc-Andre Fleury has won two straight games.

FOXSports: 19 (last week: 18).

Marc-Andre Fleury looked like his old self in Week 6, winning back-to-back starts for the Pens for the first time this season. The 25-year-old netminder turned away 46 of the 49 shots he faced in the two wins.

Yahoo!: 9 (last week: 10).

The Evgeni Malkin-moving-to-right-wing experience is over. He’s back at center and has four goals and seven points over four games.

NECN: 15 (last week: 14).

The Pens have been soft since they let Rob Scuderi and Hal Gill go a couple of years ago, and they're still playing like tissue paper now. I don't see them winning until their defense and goaltending is addressed despite the Sid and Malkin Show.
