Penguins Vs. Panthers: Sidney Crosby Tries To Take NHL Points Lead In Florida

The Penguins play on the road against the Florida Panthers tonight at 7:30. For the Pens, Sidney Crosby again has an opportunity to pass Steven Stamkos as the NHL's points leader - Stamkos currently has 34 points, Crosby 33.

Don't expect there to be much scoring on the power play for either side. Florida's numbers in power play situations on both sides of the puck have been similar to those of the Penguins. The Panthers have been one of the worst teams in the NHL on the power play, converting only 8.1% of opportunities, and they're a strong defensive team overall and have done a good job on the penalty kill,, at 87.3%.

Offensively, the Panthers don't have anywhere near the firepower at the top of their roster that the Pens do with Crosby and Evgeni Malkin - Florida has 14 players with at least six points, but none with more than 12. But they have allowed fewer goals than the Pens, and have gotten a fairly strong season overall from goalie Tomas Vokoun, who stopped 39 of 40 shots in the Panthers' last game, against the Islanders.
