Pitt's men's basketball team ranks fifth in the coaches poll. There hasn't yet been much movement in the college basketball rankings, as most of the top teams have won so far. North Carolina has taken a big fall from No. 8 in the preseason poll to No. 25 after losses to Minnesota and Vanderbilt, and Minnesota is the biggest upward mover, going from unranked in the preseason poll to No. 17 after starting 5-0 and knocking off North Carolina. West Virginia is on the periphery and should move into the poll after a couple big weeks. Here are the top ten:
1. Duke
2. Michigan State
3. Ohio State
4. Kansas State
5. Pittsburgh
6. Kansas
7. Villanova
8. Purdue
9. Kentucky
10. Syracuse
Pitt's next game against a ranked team comes on December 11, when they'll play 24th-ranked Tennessee, so as long as the Panthers keep rolling, don't expect their ranking to change much in the next couple weeks. WVU doesn't play again until Saturday (against VMI) and actually doesn't have a game against a ranked team until January 8, when the Mountaineers will play Georgetown.
