Bowl Projections For Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia

Rivals.com released its bowl projections today, and all three local teams, now bowl-eligible, should be spending the holidays in some warm locales.

Pitt is still projected to play in the Fiesta Bowl as Big East champion, however, after weeks of projecting Nebraska will face the Panthers in Glendale, Rivals now believes Oklahoma State will be Pitt's opponent as Big XII champ. This projection obviously hinges on the outcomes of this weekend's West Virginia-Pitt and Oklahoma-Oklahoma State games, so stay tuned.

Penn State is expected to play Florida at the Gator Bowl on New Year's day in a game that would have a lot of the same storylines as their matchup on the hardwood a few years ago in the NIT. A young Penn State squad would face a rebuilding Florida team for a chance to establish some real momentum heading into 2011.

West Virginia will likely see North Carolina State in the Champs Sports Bowl on December 28 if it falls in he Backyard Brawl. That game is the new landing spot for the Big East's No. 2 selection after the Big Ten cut ties with Champs Sports after last season, so if West Virginia wins on Friday, expect the projection to flip Pitt and West Virginia's destinations.
