Steelers Vs. Jets: Troy Polamalu Could Be Out

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu could be out against the Jets, the Post-Gazette reports, after aggravating an ankle injury that has bothered him for the last month. (The Post-Gazette calls it a “lower-leg injury.”) If he were absent, it would be a significant blow to the Steelers, obviously.

Polamalu has not practiced the past two days, which has been the routine for the five-time Pro Bowl safety since he was injured last month. But he has always practiced Friday and played Sunday — until now.

The Steelers do not have to list Polamalu’s official injury status for the game until today after practice. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Ryan Mundy or Will Allen.

Polamalu has played brilliantly in the past few weeks despite the injury. I had thought that his sitting out practice Thursday wouldn’t be a problem because he has consistently missed practice recently, but that apparently isn’t the case.
