Pirates Minor Leaguer Pitches Seven No-Hit Innings

Pirates minor league Kyle McPherson, who pitches for the Bucs' Class A affiliate in West Virginia, threw seven no-hit innings in his start against Lexington today. (Ryan Kelly allowed a single in relief to break up the no-hitter.) McPherson isn't a hot prospect, but his strong play throughout the year has been part of a pattern: many of the Pirates' minor league pitchers (including Bryan Morris, Rudy Owens, Jeff Locke, Nate Adcock and McPherson) have performed well beyond expectations, while the hitters (including Gorkys Hernandez, Robbie Grossman and Chase D'Arnaud) have lagged behind.
