The Pirates have placed starting pitcher Charlie Morton on the DL with shoulder troubles, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Reliever Steven Jackson has been recalled to take his place, probably only until another starter (perhaps Brad Lincoln) is needed.
↵If the shoulder trouble is an actual explanation for Morton's horrible play this season, rather than just an excuse to get him off the field, then this may turn out to be good news if Morton can make a full recovery.
↵In the meantime: no one ever likes to see a player get hurt, but some Pirates fans will probably be breathing a sigh of relief here, since Morton's recent performances have unpleasantly recalled the days of John Van Benschoten.
