Nationals phenom Stephen Strasburg will make his major-league debut against the Pirates June 8. Strasburg, the top pick in the 2009 draft, has already carved up the high minors, posting ERAs of 1.64 and 1.27 at Class AA Harrisburg and Class AAA Syracuse, respectively.
The Nationals' official announcement doesn't come as much of a surprise--for the past several weeks, there has been widespread speculation that Strasburg would debut at around this time. He'll face off against a Pirates offense that has been outscored by every team except Houston.
Coincidentally, Strasburg also made his minor league debut against a team from the Pirates organization, pitching against Class AA Altoona on April 8. That game was a media circus, so expect more of the same in a week.
