WVU will hire Oliver Luck as its new athletic director, the Post-Gazette reports:
A former standout quarterback for the Mountaineers from 1978-81 and three-year starter, Luck was also a Rhodes Scholar finalist and graduated from West Virginia as an academic All-American.
Luck has been working as the president and general manager of the Houston Dynamo Major League Soccer team since 2005 and, prior to that, was the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority Chief Executive Officer for four years.
After playing for the Mountaineers, Luck was a second round pick of the NFL's Houston Oilers, playing for that franchise from 1982-86.
Luck will replace Ed Pastilong, who is retiring. The Charleston Daily Mail's report suggests that the transition may not take place right away--Pastilong's retirement is scheduled at the end of the month, but he's willing to stay on a while longer, and Luck may stay on in his current job with the Houston Dynamo soccer team while that franchise builds a new stadium.
