The Post-Gazette reports that the Pirates have extended both Huntington and Russell for one year. This seems appropriate – despite the overall results at the major league level, I’m a fan of Huntington, and I think he’s been a good GM overall despite the fact that some of the players he’s acquired in trades have been disappointing. I don’t really care much for Russell one way or the other, but I think keeping him on for a while is fine. Strangely, the extensions were agreed upon in the offseason, but the Pirates had been keeping them secret until now. I don't have any problem with that, but some of the angrier elements of the Bucs' fanbase surely will.
