Sidney Crosby Nominated For 'Mark Messier Leadership Award'

It's not exactly the most prestigious award that's given out (it has a sponsor, for crying out loud), but an honor is an honor.  And Mark Messier announced that Sidney Crosby is one of three finalists, along with Phoenix's Shane Doan and Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller, for the leadership award that bears Messier's name.

"The Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award presented by Bridgestone has been awarded since 2006-07 and is awarded 'to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season'," the league said in a statement.

It'll be interesting to see what they're looking for in awarding this.  Given that Crosby lead his team to a Cup last season and scored the game winning gold medal goal in this Olympics, it seems like Sid ought to have as good a chance as any of the finalists.
