Pitt Football Recruit Todd Thomas To Start Out At WR

After some consideration to playing Todd Thomas on defense, Dave Wannstedt has decided it’s at wide receiver where he fits best:

“I wasn’t sure where we were going to put him,” Wannstedt said. “We’ve got him playing wide receiver and the guy is a playmaker. We were thinking about playing him at safety or linebacker, but the plays he’s making on offense right now I think we’re going to leave him at wide receiver.”

This year, Jonathan Baldwin, Mike Shanahan, Greg Cross, Cameron Saddler, and Aundre Wright are all expected to receive playing time. Devin Street and Ed Tinker could also be in the mix.

With the likely departure of junior wideout Jonathan Baldwin after this season, Pitt could lose a lot of production out of that position. However, the team gets another potential star at WR in 2011 incoming freshman Bill Belton.

Thomas will provide a nice boost to Pitt at wide receiver, but his talents could be needed more in a fairly unstable secondary.
