Pitt Again Nearing Agreement With 93.7 FM The Fan For Broadcast Rights

Bob Smizik of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is again reporting that Pitt and the 93.7 FM The Fan are again nearing a deal to move the school’s basketball and football radio broadcasts to the station:

The long and circuitous negotiating process for broadcasting rights to Pitt football and basketball may finally be at an end.

But you’ve heard that before.

However, after several bumps in the road, it looks like Pitt and The Fan (93.7, KDKA-FM) are on the verge of an agreement.

Even though Pitt is already on the FM dial locally, the move would be an improvement. 93.7 FM is an all sports talk radio station and with broadcast rights, the station will be pushing more talk about Pitt sports. I expect there could even be extended pre- and post-game shows after each contest.

↵

Additionally, Pitt’s would be the only broadcasting rights held by the station. That should cause an even bigger push to cover the school, and the Panthers will essentially get top billing.

The women’s games (which apparently were not the hang-up in the initial negotiations, as was first reported) will be moved to WJAS-AM 1320.
