Potential Pirates Draft Pick Anthony Rendon Hurt

It must be tough being Anthony Rendon. One day you're the consensus top pick in the 2011 MLB draft, the next day your misfortune has your coach quoting Shakespeare. Rendon, a third baseman for Rice, injured and perhaps fractured his ankle, and the injury could keep him out six months or more. This is relevant to the Pirates because, in case you hadn't noticed, they have an awfully good shot at the top overall pick next year.

Let's hope Rendon gets healthy, not only because it's no fun being hurt, but because it would be nice for there to be a consensus top pick if the Bucs do pick first last year. The last time they had the top overall pick, there wasn't a consensus number one, and the Pirates wound up with Bryan Bullington. If there had been a Ken Griffey Jr. or Alex Rodriguez available in the draft after one of the Bucs' really disastrous seasons, their 17-year losing streak might have turned out differently.
