Dennis Dodd of CBSSports.com is running a feature on the top five schools with the best basketball and football programs – now and positioned for success in the future.
↵Pitt landed on his list at #5. While that may come as a surprise to some, it shouldn’t. In 2008, both teams reached the top 20 of the polls and last year, the top 15. This year, the basketball team is expected to be in the top 10 in the beginning of the season, while the football team could realistically be in the top 15 and has been predicted by many to win the Big East.
↵This kind of success isn’t unprecedented for Pitt, though. From 2002-2005, the school had both its basketball and football teams ranked at some point in the season.
↵The best part of this, though, isn’t the success in the past or present – it’s that Pitt has a bright future and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. With top facilities, the nation’s most livable city in which to live, a solid educational institution, and great recruiting, coaches Dave Wannstedt and Jamie Dixon have been able to lure some of the nation’s best talent to the school.
↵Pitt has already accomplished what most schools have not – having the best of both worlds with two ranked teams. And it only looks to be getting better.
