Shawn Oakman Commits To Penn State

New, 1 comment

Penn State's thin 2011 recruiting class got a big boost in the form of Shawn Oakman, a four-star (Rivals.com) defensive end out of Landsdowne, when he gave his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions Thursday night.

Oakman will be only Penn State's second commit for the 2011 class, and his verbal comes after a week of rampant speculation and concern over the state of Penn State recruiting, and the effect of Joe Paterno's ailing health on the future of the program.

Hopefully the addition of Oakman will stem the hysteria for a few days. No question Penn State is still behind in recruiting at the moment, but Oakman's verbal should signal that although the Lions are losing battles here and there to teams like Ohio State and Pitt, solid recruits are not fleeing Happy Valley in mass quantities regardless of Paterno's health.

Another of Penn State's targets might commit as early as this weekend, so stay tuned.
