Jared Odrick Signs With Dolphins, Could Start Immediately

Former Penn State defensive lineman Jared Odrick has signed his rookie contract with the Miami Dolphins and will report to training camp on time.

The five-year deal could be worth up to 13 million dollars, with 7.13 million of that guaranteed.

↵

Potentially the best news, however, is that the first rounder will likely have a chance to contribute immediately with the Dolphins' defensive unit.

Odrick is the front-runner for a starting job as a replacement for veteran Phillip Merling, who hurt his Achilles' tendon this month and will miss the entire season.

↵

"There was an added sense of urgency because of the injury to Merling," Rosenhaus said. "We thought there was chance for Jared to be the starting end."

Obviously Merling's loss could be Odrick's gain. A year from now, Odrick could be another one of Larry Johnson Sr.'s former pupils who has made Penn State very proud.
