Rain Suspends Play At U.S. Women's Open

Rain halted today’s U.S. Open play at Oakmont with a few players not even getting to the first tee. Still, there was plenty of action to follow.

Sophie Gustafson is the current leader at even par, but she only finished one hole during today’s round. A logjam of players follow her at +1, including Brittany Lang, Kristy McPherson, Cristie Kerr, and four others.

A perfect example of just how brutal the course can be was the fall of the little-known M.J. Hur. Yesterday, Hur shot a 70, good for -1 and a tie for second. A disastrous round of +10 today puts her in a tie for 78th place and in danger of missing the projected cut of +11. It’s not often you see a golfer tied for second after the opening day and in danger of missing the final two days of a tournament.

Also in danger of missing the cut are Michelle Wie, who stands at +13, and seven-time major winner and Hall of Famer Juli Inkster, at +11.
