Huggins Speaks About His Fall

New, 1 comment

West Virginia University head men's basketball coach Bob Huggins spoke to Tony Caridi about his fall earlier this summer.  Huggins suffered seven broken ribs, and a lot more internet speculation.  Huggins has had several high-profile alcohol related incidents throughout his career and many speculated that this was one of them.  According to WV MetroNews:

↵
Huggins broke those seven ribs while on a recruiting trip in Las Vegas last month.  He said he was in his hotel room on the phone when he quickly got up to pick up his luggage on the other side of the room.  That’s when he blacked out and fell in a vulnerable position into the coffee table.↵

“Because I had the phone up talking, my whole side was exposed,” Huggins said.  “So, I landed right on my ribs.”

Huggins said a variety of reasons contributed to the light-headedness that ultimately caused his fall.

↵

“I just kind of blacked out when I got up.  Anybody that’s had a heart attack like I’ve had, you take a lot of medication,” Huggins said.  “I think it’s a combination of a lot of things.  You fly out there and I think everybody knows when you fly four and a half hours, you’re probably a little dehydrated.  And I was in the gym the day before for 15and a half hours -- and instead of drinking water, I drank diet drinks.”

So there you have it.  Straight from the coach's mouth.
