With three RBIs by Neil Walker, an RBI triple by Jose Tabata and a quality start from Paul Maholm, the Pirates snuck by the Cardinals tonight 4-3.
The Pirates looked like they might blow a 4-2 lead in the ninth, as Evan Meek allowed a series of baserunners. Albert Pujols came to the plate with a 4-3 Pirates lead, two men on and one out and hit a ball that third baseman Pedro Alvarez couldn’t handle. A hustling play by Ronny Cedeno to back up Alvarez kept the tying run from scoring, however, and Meek got Matt Holliday and Felipe Lopez to pop up to end the game.
