Vlad from Bucs Dugout has a wacky idea: what if the Pirates signed former WVU quarterback Pat White? White's NFL career appears to be on the rocks, as he was recently cut by the Dolphins and hasn't received interest from any other teams. He has always been well-regarded as a baseball player, and has been drafted four times, including in the fourth round by the Angels in 2004. Since he wasn't drafted this year, he's free to sign with any team. The Pirates boast great potential for advancement, proximity to Morgantown, and even a minor league affiliate in Charleston. White could stay close to an area that regards him as a hero, and the Pirates could get an outfielder with some upside.
↵It probably won't happen, but it's a fun idea.
