Former Pirate Akinori Iwamura To Join Oakland Athletics

Akinori Iwamura, who began the year as the Pirates starting second baseman and highest-paid player but wound up in the minors before being removed from the Bucs' roster entirely, will sign with the Oakland A's.

Iwamura, 31, was released Friday by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Forst said Iwamura will join the team for the start of a six-game road trip today in Kansas City ...

Iwamura has played primarily second and third in his big league career, and his signing likely was spurred by starting third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff's lower back spasms. Kouzmanoff has missed the past six games.

Iwamura is extremely likely to wind up back in the big leagues, given that he thoroughly deserved to be dropped by the worst team in baseball.

And now, I can't see why I'd ever post another news item on Iwamura. Let us never speak of him again.
